Newsletter gets Lottery aid for printed editions

Members of the Carloway community who receive their local newsletter in printed format have won the support of the Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery. 
The Carloway Newsletter has now been in production for 13 years with the main aim of reaching out to every member of the community and keeping residents up-to- date with local events.

However, it was at risk of having to cut this service due to rising costs. Hettie Knight, who voluntarily delivers the monthly newsletter every month, said "The majority of recipients access the newsletter electronically.

"However, there is a small number who are unable to access the newsletter in this way. For those residents, the newsletter is printed and personally delivered and we are grateful to the Western Isles Lottery for providing financial support of £360.00 to meet the printing costs which guarantees continuation throughout 2024.

"This ensures that those residents have access to local information and events in the local community."

Janet Paterson of the Western Isles Lottery team, said "A lot of time and effort is put into the local community newsletter to ensure everyone is included and knows what is happening within their own area.

Most important, the personal delivery is vital and is very much appreciated and those that need it can look forward to a smiley visitor each month! 

"We are delighted to be able to help continue this service, particularly the social aspect of it, with funding that has been raised by the Supporters of the Lottery in the Westside postcode areas."
